Opportunity to Implement the Ottawa Model for Smoking Cessation

The University of Ottawa Heart Institute is seeking to expand the Ottawa Model for Smoking Cessation (OMSC) hospital-based network by offering start-up support for hospitals implementing the model. The primary goal of the network is to treat a greater number of hospitalized smokers in a systematic manner, ultimately increasing cessation rates throughout the country.

Start-up grants of $12,500 are available to eligible hospitals to assist with initial implementation costs (i.e. human resources, training). In addition, costs associated with the Interactive Voice Response (IVR) mediated follow-up and program management system software, a key component of the Ottawa Model for Smoking Cessation, will be covered for the first year.

Any hospital interested in implementing a systematic approach to identifying and treating smokers is welcomed to apply. Sign-off and approval of the application by the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer (or designate) is required.

The deadline for submission is September 30, 2008. The Request for Applications can be found online at http://www.ccpnetwork.ca.
